University of Bordeaux is looking for a Master student willing to work in our theoretical chemistry group in Bordeaux for a 5-months research internship. It is funded by a joint research program with University of Waterloo (Canada) so it means that we can cover part of accommodation and travel expanses (700 euros per months) and complete with Erasmus mobility grant or others. The scientific program is detailed below and please see the paper already published this year related to the project.
If any of your student is interested, please contact me at cedric.crespos@u-bordeaux.fr
The research project aims to overcome the limitations of conventional gas sensing technologies by combining machine learning algorithms with metal oxide-organic thin films synthesis (high-performance metal oxide-organic thin film gas sensors for detecting amines such as ammonia, dimethylamine, and trimethylamine). By exploring various organic thin film materials, we will identify optimal combinations with semiconductor metal oxides to enhance the sensitivity, selectivity, and stability of gas sensors within a combined experimental and computational approach.
The 6-months internship project will be focused on the theoretical part with electronic structure calculations, making use of quantum chemistry technics and more sepcifically density functional theory (DFT) for large systems. Linear-scaling DFT calculations will be performed with the CONQUEST code. This will allow us to handle large-size chemical systems, including those with defects. The combination of AI algorithms and linear-scaling DFT should provides an efficient and systematic means to navigate the extensive compositional space of multicomponent oxide-based chemiresistors.

This educational project is an example of successful international cooperation in education, strengthening the relationship between UCT Prague and NIMS University Jaipur. We expect similar initiatives to continue developing and strengthening scientific and academic cooperation between the Czech Republic and India."
On Saturday, 18th November, the Welcome Office organised an autumn walk to the Monastery of St. Adalbert and St. Margaret in Prague's Břevnov. The historical interpretation was once again provided by our excellent guide Ing. Martin Bělohradský. Our group visited the interior of St Margaret's Basilica, from where the participants descended to the Romanesque crypt with foundations dating back to the 11th century.
In the upper part of the monastery they admired the beautiful Theresian´s Hall and the interior of the Prelature.
We did not miss the Vojtěška spring, which refers to the legend of the foundation of the monastery by Prince Boleslav II and Bishop Vojtěch in 993 AD.
The walk ended in the garden of the monastery, from where there is a beautiful view of the surrounding part of Prague 6.
Prague, Czech Republic, [6.11.2023] – The University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (UCT Prague), in a resplendent display of international collaboration and educational excellence, hosted the esteemed Kyutech Autumn School from October 21 to 27, 2023. This event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between VŠCHT and the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), Japan.
Under the expert guidance of Professor Josef Krýsa from the Institute of Inorganic Technology and in coordination with UCT Prague's Department of International Relations, the autumn school provided an immersive learning experience for Japanese students. This year's event symbolized a triumphant return following a four-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, reflecting a renewed commitment to global educational exchange.
The autumn school, a continuation of the successful sessions held in 2018 and 2019, witnessed participation from 14 esteemed students from Kyutech. They were accompanied by distinguished Professors Teruhisa Ohno and Mitsuru Kitamura. The curriculum was meticulously designed to encompass Theoretical and Environmental Aspects of Chemical Technologies. UCT Prague's faculty, including Professor Josef Krýsa, Associate Professor Martin Paidar, Ing. Michal Baudys, and Ing. Šárka Paušová, played a pivotal role in delivering this comprehensive educational experience.
A highlight of the program was an innovative Workshop where both Czech and Japanese educators and students had the opportunity to present and discuss their cutting-edge research topics. This academic exchange culminated in an informal gathering at the café Carbon, fostering a sense of community and shared learning.
Complementing the academic pursuits were a series of cultural and exploratory activities, offering the students a rich taste of Czech culture and history. Visits to the iconic Estates Theatre, exploratory tours of Prague, an excursion to the Bernard brewery, and a trip to the silver museum and cathedral in Kutná Hora enriched the students' experience, blending education with cultural appreciation.
Looking ahead, UCT Prague eagerly anticipates the continuation of this fruitful collaboration, with plans already underway for the fourth iteration of the autumn school in the 2024/2025 academic year, to be hosted by Kyutech in Japan.

The Welcome Office organised the third guided walk for UCT Prague foreign students, researchers and their family memebers on Sunday, October 15 this year. This time we went to Vyšehrad, an important place for a Czech nation with a rich history. In the fortifications we visited the Casemates and the Gorlice Hall with the original statues from the Charles Bridge. We toured the beautiful interior of the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul and went to see the cemetory with the graves of famous poeple. Former UCT graduate Ing. Martin Belohradsky guided the group and told a lot about the history of this significant place and legends associated with it.
The conference serves as a hub for meeting representatives of universities from all over the world, to discuss possible inter-university collaborations, and also as a place for education and sharing experiences in the field of internationalization.
The conference was attended by more than 6900 participants - representatives of universities, national agencies, and companies offering support and services in the field of international education. We believe that our participation will have a positive impact on the development of new strategic partnerships."
On Thursday, September 14, join the Culture Course led by Caleb Daniel House, MSc. (USA).
Caleb House was born and raised in Northern California. Since 2003 he has lived in 10 countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa as a student, volunteer, teacher, researcher, and project manager. Along the way, he slowly realized that the deep differences in culture are not the main problem, rather the way we think about culture can have a make-or-break impact on the experience abroad. Through a long process of failures and successes, he developed a set of tools to overcome the challenges and to make the most of living in a foreign country. Since 2018 he has worked in the International Relations Office of the Czech Technical University in Prague.
The Culture Course provides insight into culture shock, culture fatigue, how to think about culture when you're a foreigner, or how to make the most of your time in a foreign country despite challenges.

Every applicant has the opportunity to request the reception of a stipend that either eliminates the participation fee or assists with travel costs (up to 2000€). Fees and stipends are specifically designed to ameliorate the financial constraints of prospective participants who do not have the institutional support that is generally required to apply for a program like ours. While this may especially be necessary for international candidates from underrepresented communities, we encourage every young scholar without a budget for travel/conferences to apply for the stipend they would benefit from the most.
We have extended our application deadline until Sunday, 2 July 2023 to give those with financial concerns a little more time to hand in their applications. If you could be so kind as to distribute this information (updated documents attached) as broadly as possible among early career researchers in your organization, we would appreciate that very much.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at schuetz@mk.uni-heidelberg.de.
Warm greetings from RWTH Aachen University.

The EIT Jumpstarter programme aims to create a sustainable impact in the Central-Eastern and Southern-European Regions by boosting innovation and entrepreneurship within this part of Europe. The programme’s concept originates from the needs of the innovation ecosystem of these regions. Throughout the programme, researchers want to be entrepreneurs and innovators who learn from expert trainers and mentors, who help them build a viable business model, validate it, and if it is sustainable, they are encouraged to register their company. We believe that this program might be interesting to your students, researchers or colleagues who would like to participate in the valorization of their research results – in line with your organizational policies - but have no experience in it. As EIT Jumpstarter is a training program with the opportunity to create a start-up or spin-off for your organization and further progress in our innovation funnel in the EIT RawMaterials accelerator or Booster program, this is a risk-free activity.

to actively participate in cutting-edge stem cell research projects in Dieter Egli’s laboratory at Columbia
University. The selected candidate will join Columbia University as a J-1 visa fellow for a six-month period.
During the internship, the fellow will work on selected research projects under the direct supervision
of the principal investigator and a senior researcher (see his contact information below). If the knowledge
that the fellow generates is used in a scientific publication, the fellow will be included in the list of authors.
Principal Investigator:
Dietrich M. Egli, PhD, Maimonides Assistant Professor of Developmental Cell Biology
Department of Pediatrics, Division of Molecular Genetics
Research Overview:
The Egli lab focuses on stem cells, epigenetic reprogramming, disease modeling, genome stability,
and early human development. Two ongoing projects are especially relevant to this announcement.
A. The precise and efficient correction of disease-causing mutations in early human embryos
This research project aims to: (i) deepen our understanding of DNA repair mechanisms in early human
embryos and (ii) evaluate the potential of novel genome-editing tools (e.g., prime editors) for the precise
and efficient correction of pathogenic mutations soon after fertilization. The Egli lab is one of only a few
laboratories in the world that have both the legal and ethical approval required to conduct this research.
Our recent references include Zuccaro et al., Nature. (2018); Zuccaro et al., Cell. (2019); Turocy et. al.,
Cell. (2021).
B. Mitigation of replication stress in human preimplantation embryo
The Egli hab is interested in understanding the genome stability during epigenetic reprogramming
and early human development. Aneuploidy is exceedingly common in human embryos and is the most
common cause of pregnancy loss. In the current project, we plan to identify factors that have the capacity
to mitigate the replication stress that is responsible for DNA damage and the decresead developmental
potential of human embryos. Our recent references include Chia et al., Nat Cell Biol. (2017);
Palmerola et al., Cell. (2022) (manuscript accepted for publication).

At UCT Prague love to see new international students at our university and we always want to make their first days in Czechia their best, that’s why they can spend their first days in the Czech Republic with members of ESN UCT Prague by discovering university, Prague or even different places out of Prague!
Orientation Week starts with enrollment day. We always offer our helping hand, and ESN members guide new students during their first steps at our university and are always ready to answer any question. On the first evening of Orientation Week, a Welcome Party is planned, where new students can meet with other international students and get to know them through ice-breaking games. Tuesday means Czech Culture Evening, where students can have a bite of our Czech culture in one hour. Wednesday is about a treasure hunt during which students can discover the Prague city center. Thursday is full of trips and it is up to the students, which one they want to join.
This all wouldn't be full without Integration Weekend, which is called GTK, during which we play team competition games, as well as the small individual ones, with the primary aim included – new students will Get To Know each other during this Weekend well!
The Bucharest University of Economic Studies and the Bucharest University of Economic Studies
Students' Union, through the Students' Senate and with the scientific mentorship of the Faculty of Finance and Banking (FABBV) will organise between the 14th and 28th of August 2022, the XVIth edition of Bucharest Summer University. Together with speakers and professors from top universities and companies around the world, 55 participants will spend 2 weeks in the campus of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies including one extended weekend exploring particular destinations across the country.
The Bucharest Summer University is open for students from all levels (bachelor, masters and PhD),
from Europe and all around the world. In order to take part, you have to choose between our three
categories of applications: Free Scholarship, Partial Payment and Total Payment. For the first one, you
need to send us through our site (www.bsu.ase.ro) the application form, the resume and an essay based on this year’s topic („FinTech vs Traditional Financial Services”), following some specific guidelines available on our website. The second one requires the application form, the resume and a motivational letter. For the third one, it is necessary only the application form and the CV.
At the end of the two weeks period of courses, seminars, workshops and debates sustained or
moderated by renowned professors and national and international specialists and after passing a final
exam, the participants will receive 5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Besides the two weeks of classes, this event represents a great opportunity for the participants to
discover a new culture through a series of planned recreational events and challenging activities, such as: Bucharest City Tour, an adventurous trip in Romania, team buildings, social events, Global Village (a
presentation of each participant’s country in our project, an exhibition and tasting of traditional products) and many others.
