Traineeship abroad

Thinking about a traineeship abroad?

Recommended! You can arrange your internship completely without the help of the Department of International Relations (IRO), you will only need to arrange with the Dean's Office how to include your traineeship in your study plan (e.g. interruption of studies, staggering of study obligations) and inform IRO about your planned departure here.  For example, this procedure is used by students who have secured an internship through IAESTE or other external scholarship programmes.  However, these students are the minimum.

Most students find an internship where they wish to fulfil their study obligations (subjects: Professional practice, International internship) and also have zero or minimum financial support. That's what the international department is there for, and can support you with Erasmus+ scholarship.

Erasmus + is a mobility programme that promotes international cooperation between universities, students and teachers. It supports education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.

How to find a traineeship?

You can contact our Partner universities or any other university/institution/company in Europe and worldwide that applies science and research in the field relevant to your studies. For internship offers, search the projects and cooperations that your Department has, ask your supervisor and follow the News page of our website or erasmusintern.org

Who can apply?

  • Magister/Doctoral student (Exceptionally bachelor student)
  • all forms of study
  • student must be enrolled at UCT for the whole time period of the traineeship.
  • no limitations in citizenship but must be enrolled in to accredited study program at UCT
  • finished at least one year of study at the time of departure (application could be sent earlier)
  • study average no worse than 2,00 (for Magister students only, average counted from all years of study)

How long for?

The traineeship has to last between 2 - 6 months. Stay abroad that differs from this length will be assessed individually and approved only in well-founded cases. You can repeatedly apply until you reach the 12-month limit.

How about money?

Your scholarship funding will be provided in EUR. In order not to lose much from the money transfer - get yourself a EUR account. The received financial support differs from destination and length of stay.

How much with Erasmus+ ?

! A tip for you - if you are applying for an external scholarship (DAAD, AKTION, French scholarships, etc...) and the decision to award the scholarship follows the deadline for applying for an Erasmus+ scholarship, we always recommend applying for Erasmus+ as well in case the external scholarship does not work out.
